June Issue
Welcome to the latest issue of the Greater Whitsunday Communities E-Newsletter.
Greater Whitsunday Communities acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we live, and work and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and future.
It has been an exceptionally busy six months for Greater Whitsunday Communities. As we enter the 2023-2024 financial year, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Community Development staff of Greater Whitsunday Communities. Their remarkable work and dedication is making a positive difference in the lives of individuals and communities in our region.
I would also like to express our gratitude to the Whitsunday, Isaac and Mackay regional councils for their invaluable support. The support from our three local governments has been essential to our achievements in the last six months.
The Whitsunday Housing Summit on August 15 is a key event to address housing issues and develop solutions aligned with the issues identified at the Greater Whitsunday Housing Roundtable held on 6 December 2022. This proactive approach demonstrates our commitment to finding innovative solutions to the region's housing challenges. The summit is generously supported by the Whitsunday, Isaac and Mackay Regional Councils, Regional Development Australia (Greater Whitsundays), Dalyrymple Bay Coal Terminal, Community Bank Sarina, Queensland Pumped Hydro and Q Shelter. We are grateful for the commitment of these stakeholders to driving positive solutions to this critical regional issue.
We strongly encourage our members to register to attend the summit and be part of the solution.
As you will see from this newsletter GWC remains committed to mental health care and suicide prevention. Sadly, we bid farewell to our Suicide Prevention Project Officer Courtney Wilson, who has been a driving force in this space. On behalf of all the staff and the board of GWC we thank Courtney for her tireless work and passion that she has put towards the project and wish her well in her future endeavors.
We have made a positive impact in the past year through our support for community initiatives, such as the Safe Sleep Project, Better Together Housing program, Building Community and Social Legacy project, Mackay Social Enterprise Network, Youth Community Leadership Program, Leading Australian Resilient Communities program, Isaac Youth Unmet Needs project, YOL 1000 report, Community Health and Information Day, and Participatory Community Development Workshop.
In closing I would like to thank our members. We are grateful for your continued support and feedback. We know that we can only be successful if we work together. Please continue to identify and raise your challenges with us, so that we can enable and empower the communities in our region.

Executive Officer
