Peak Body Representation

We are a not-for-profit that exists with support and leadership from local communities, service providers and government.

Our work has continued over forty years due to an ongoing need for a regional representative who is trusted to support and advocate for community members.

Greater Whitsunday Communities, formerly Regional Social Development Coalition, and Mackay Region for Social Development, has maintained its position as an independent peak body for social development for the Greater Whitsunday region.

This role includes maintaining relationships with:

  • Community members

  • Community leaders

  • Service providers

  • Local businesses

  • All levels of government

  • Other peak bodies

Our work, whilst unique and variable, is always driven by community need and regional development. We have a strong membership and stakeholder base who rely on Greater Whitsunday Communities to engage with and listen to the community on various issues. We also do fee-for-service work to facilitate community engagement in community research, and socio-economic advocacy.

Peak body representation is an important part of the role we play in representing the voices and advocating for needs of this region
