Regional Socio-Economic Practice

We believe that to have a strong economy, you must have a strong community. There is compelling and growing evidence that these are interconnected.

Our organisation is committed to raising awareness of this interconnectedness – from promoting more equal distribution of the economic prosperity that our region enjoys, to exploring the concept of inclusive growth and supporting social enterprise ventures. We believe these elements are important for a sustainable future for the Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday region.

Since 2018, the Greater Whitsunday Communities have facilitated several key events and discussions, including;

  • National SEGRA Community Forum

  • Socio-economic forum with industry leaders from across the region

  • Regional Women in Leadership Forum

  • Conducting an economic analysis about the social sector’s economic value and contribution

  • Establishing a Community of Practice for Inclusive Growth project

  • Investment in community leadership knowledge, skills and mentoring

  • Empowering community members to connect with their social sector and local businesses
