Better Together Housing - December 2022

L to R: Maria, Tania, Wendy, Thelma, Jenny & Lauren

GWCommunities have re-signed with the Better Together Housing (BTH) program for another 12months carrying the work through until the 30th of June 2023. Similar to the previous contract, there is a focus on promoting the project and identifying key partners in the community to support with the promotion and delivery of BTH in an effective way that reflects the needs of the community.

One of these key community partnerships is with the Soroptimist International Mackay group, who have been collaborating with Project Officer Lauren Pattie since September. What started off with an information session presented to the group about BTH, quickly grew into a discussion about how they could assist women in their community through the program. The group decided to develop a series of FAQ videos, based on the questions that naturally arose from the information session. Member Maria said “If we are asking these questions, then I am sure other women are wondering the same thing too.” These videos are designed to help women in the community find out more about how the program works and how they can connect in a relaxed and informal way. With the support of CQUniversity, Lauren and six members recorded these videos in early December utilising the CQU City Campus Library as a cosy backdrop. The videos will be launched during March 2023 as part of the Soroptimist groups International Women’s Day activities. We are really excited to see how these turn out and would like to thank the Soroptimist International Mackay group for their support.

Continuing to support our existing members through regular face to face gatherings and access to information and resources are also key deliverables. Our monthly Get Togethers have been held at the Dudley Denny Library over the past 3 months, and will continue to be held there throughout 2023 on the following dates:

·       Wednesday, February 8

·       Wednesday, March 8

We look forward to reconnecting with our members again in the new year, and encourage any women who require any additional support over the holiday period to contact the Housing Older Women Support Service   on 1800 FOOTPRINTS (1800 366 877) or check out the Better Together Housing Facebook page for other useful local information.
