Nebo and Glenden, Health and Community Information Day

“Very happy with the turn out- speakers were interesting and it’s good to know what’s in this area as I didn’t know it was available” —Lyn (Nebo Community Member)

Greater Whitsunday Communities once again partnered with the Isaac Regional Council (IRC) to conduct what is now our fourth Community Health Day in the Isaac region- Nebo and Glenden, Health and Community Information Day. This event was held in September during Women’s Health Week and was supported with a small grant from Jean Hailes for Women’s Health activities. This year’s presentations and stalls were focused on mental health and wellbeing through connection, family support and financial planning and security.

We also arranged for a regional community organisation that provides family support services, to offer free child care and kids activities so that the Mums could avail themselves of the information and conversations with service providers. An important element of these events is to foster social connection between old and new residents of the district. The information and services were relevant and useful to the entire community as many of the services are outreach services, so many attendees expressed that it was useful to find out what is available to their community.

Approximately 20 services and community agencies from across the Mackay and Isaac Regions took part in the event with many locals participating in the day. This work is undertaken through our agreement with the Greater Whitsunday Council of Mayors to strengthen regional interconnectedness and cohesiveness.

“It’s amazing to see so many services that come to Nebo. I didn’t realise we had so many. The kids’ activities were a nice touch, it was great to have something to entertain them while I was talking with services.” — Kate (Nebo Community Member)
