Enabling place-based responses for greater sustainability, resilience, wellbeing and live-ability in the Greater Whitsunday communities including Collinsville, Nebo, Clermont and Glenden

Greater Whitsunday Communities supports the development and testing of a model of community sustainability for regional rural communities through community development practice.

The process involved:

  • convening community conversations to explore common concerns and challenges

  • build strong relationships and community ownership

  • community surveying and input in the designated communities of Clermont, Collinsville, Nebo and Glenden

  • facilitate community visioning – action planning phase with Community Working Groups established

  • support communities to progress to collaborative movement and social change for sustainability.

This project was funded and supported by Glencore Coal Assets Australia Pty Limited, Isaac Regional Council, Whitsunday Regional Council, Clermont, Nebo, Collinsville, Glenden Communities.

Project Benefits:

  • Clermont - visioning exercise, 25 community groups surveyed; 20 groups engaged through Forums & conversations

  • Collinsville and Nebo to be reported on next year.

  • Attendance at Collinsville and Glenden DIG meetings

Impact:

Clermont community representatives have identified a common goal to establish an umbrella structure for the management of local community services and the community is driving that initiative (ClermontCONNECT). This is solid example of building stronger relationships and connections within and across the region to develop local place-based solutions.
